As English has become the international language for communication, there is a high demand both locally and internationally for qualified ESL teachers. Our TESL programs are designed to allow you to acquire theory, pedagogy and practical ESL teaching skills within a reasonable time frame.
A.L.I. offers 2 TESL/TEFL training courses
These courses are interactive and task-based. Participants take part actively in all class discussions, activities, and presentations. The instructor(s) will introduce the participants to a variety of activities, teaching materials, and share valuable practical experience from lesson planning to classroom management strategies. Candidates will emerge from the courses with a broadened perspective on communicative language teaching and the ESL industry.

The 150-hour TESL/TEFL Certificate is designed for future ESL teachers looking for a comprehensive course in communicative language teaching. This program will give participants the opportunity to:

• learn about and practice using various techniques and current second language teaching methods through micro-teachings and a 20-hour practicum
• get feedback from experienced trainers on their use of newly acquired teaching techniques
• master some of the most challenging grammar points in the English language
• develop critical thinking skills in order to choose and develop
level-appropriate teaching materials
• work on classroom management, lesson planning, and presentation skills
• learn how to teach and plan for special interest classes eg. TOEFL, TOEIC, business English |

| The 70-hour TESL Passport™ II is designed mainly for candidates who want an overview of the world of ESL teaching. This is an introductory course to teaching skills development and communicative grammar. This course gives candidates the opportunity to: |
• emerge with a variety of classroom activities and interactive language games
• observe experienced ESL teachers from beginner to advanced levels
• become familiar with some of the most challenging grammar points in the English language
• get feedback from experienced trainers on lesson planning and presentation skills |

Application Procedures |
• Candidates must write a 300 word composition based on the following question: "Is the most popular teacher always the best teacher?"
• Candidates must take a written grammar test and pass with a 90% score or higher.
• Candidates must attend an oral interview and must receive the approval of the TESL Coordinator and/or Director of Studies. |
Evaluation Procedures |
• Candidates must attend at least 80% of the theory classes.
• Candidates will be evaluated on the following:
- Classroom participation
- Micro-teaching presentations
- Observation report
- Lesson plan development
- Practicum (Certificate course only)
• Candidates need to receive a minimum grade of 70% or higher to obtain certification. |
